Coleen Gray & Patsy Ruth Miller

MOTHER (1978) starring Coleen Gray, Patsy Ruth Miller and Dallas Hill.  Written, produced and directed by Brian Pinette.  Film noir icon Coleen Gray of "REd River" w/John Wayne and Stanely Kubrick's "The Killing" co-stars with silent film legend Patsy Ruth Miller, the gypsy Esmeralda in Lon Chaney's classic "THe Hunchback of Notre Dame."  This was her first film in over 25 years and her last screen appearance.  She starred as Mother.  "Country-singsation" and artist Dallas Hill rounds out the leads.  A brief synopsis:  Coleen wants to place her Mother into a home run by Dallas Hill.  Mother has a different idea.  She wants to go to a fair.  She has a ticket.  The fair was in 1913.  At the end, instead of the home, she does indeed, go to the fair!

Upon Reflection ...

This was the second film Miss Gray did for me.  I wrote "Forgotten Lady" for her.  This was a simpler time.  I had those books "Whatever Became of..."  I was able to get Miss Gray and Miss Miller on the telephone.  We chatted and within minutes, we agreed upon shooting.  I flew them into Houston and we shot "Mother" in five days.  It cost about $10,000.00.  (Actually less ....)

Today, I suspect, this wouldn't happen.  There was trust and truth and honersty and integrity.  The Brady Bunch, as was Father Knows Best ... were reflections on reality.  Before computers, Ipods, My Space.  There really was a neverland.
